Welcome back to Austen Promises and the Writer’s Journal!
This week, I’ve had a lot of blessings come my way, which is good, because the week or two before that were rough! I think it’s important to frequently count your blessings. It’s far too easy, especially in the winter, to see only the ugly.
It has been said to me that by speaking what I’m grateful for, I draw more blessings to me. I’m not sure if the person who said that is a believer like I am, but the Bible does say, in Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].” (AMPC) Speaking your blessings is speaking life over yourself, so I believe that person was correct when he said that to me.
Besides just drawing more blessings to yourself, counting them helps you mentally. At least, it does me. I feel better when I am reminded of all the things I have: life, health, a house to live in, ideas for writing, the ability to use my writing to earn a living, and the capability of learning new things. In the deep doldrums of winter, when everything is cold and dark, and bleak, counting these things up is a great way to lift your spirits, and to remind yourself that winter, be it the actual season or a season in your life, will pass.
Creatively, counting your blessings gives another boost. As I’ve said before, winter has always been a time of depression for me, which leads to decreased creativity. I learned this year that finding things to be grateful for gives me a creative boost. I want to add to that list of blessings, and add to the body of creative work that I have made. I’m a competitive person, even with myself, and I always strive to improve, though I’m not certain I always succeed. 🙂
Physically, counting your blessings is helpful. When your mental state is improved, you feel better. When you feel better, you get more done, and are more willing to do things like exercise.
There is a group I go to on Facebook where that’s all we do is share what we are grateful for. That’s something everyone ought to do, in my opinion.
Come back next Wednesday for another peek into my journal! <3
