Welcome back to Austen Promises!
After a long and unintended hiatus, I’m back with another post. I apologize for the delay. I had too many balls in the air and this is one of the many that got dropped. 🙁
Today’s post will end Chapter 4. It’s another nice, long post. <3 We left off with Will and Liz in Will’s truck, leaving DRI.

Liz joined her husband in his laughter. He could be a bear with the media and people he didn’t know or like, but with her, he was a completely different person, and she couldn’t imagine her life without him.
A few minutes after leaving the shop, Will pulled into the parking lot of a local strip mall. “Do you want to come in with me?” he asked. He was picking up a few things for Bingley, who had flown to Ohio with Jane for a couple days.
“Sure.” Liz hopped out of the truck when Will opened the door for her. When he took her hand, linking their fingers together, she grinned. She loved how he made her feel wanted and safe.
Will and Liz were in the store for about thirty minutes. They came out the same way they went in – holding hands. Will was smiling down at Liz while trying to juggle bags of purchases and holding the door. Liz was grinning up at him and laughing, her free hand loaded down with more bags. Neither paid attention to their surroundings, so it came as a complete shock when a voice Will never expected to hear and Liz could not identify suddenly came out of nowhere.
“Why, Will Darcy! Imagine finding you here!” Caroline’s voice dripped sugar. The words were no more than out of her mouth than she had his package-laden arm in her grip, her long fingernails digging like talons into his flesh.
Will recoiled, immediately. “Caroline! I thought you were in Europe.” He tried to pull his arm away, but she dug her nails in further, making him wince.
Caroline batted her lashes at Will and pressed herself closer to him. “I got back just a few days ago,” she purred in a breathy voice. “The job over there was temporary. What else would I do but come home? I have missed you so much!” She lay her head on Will’s shoulder with a smile.
The longer Caroline touched him, the more nausea Will felt. He threw a glance at Liz, his eyes wide and his lips spread into a grimace.
Liz had nearly been knocked over by Will’s attempt to evade some crazy woman. Hearing her husband call the girl Caroline, and seeing her similarity to Charles Bingley, Liz put two and two together and came to the correct conclusion. This woman was Bingley’s sister, who had a restraining order against her and had been banished to the other side of the ocean. Regardless of who she was, Liz didn’t appreciate her man being touched by another woman. She stepped around Will and poked Caroline’s shoulder. “Didn’t anyone ever teach you to keep your hands to yourself? Let go of my husband, and do it now.”
Caroline had happily ignored Liz to this point. She had recognized the man-stealing thief when Liz had walked out of the store, but kept her attention on Will. Now, she was forced to take half a step back, because the other woman had insinuated herself between Caroline and Will, though Caro refused to let go of Will’s arm until she absolutely had to. She sneered at Liz as she looked her up and down. “There is no way my Will would have married the likes of you. You have somehow blinded him and made him do things that are out of character, but now that I’m back in town, he’ll remember the good times and what he really wants and needs.” Caroline looked past Liz to Will, an adoring look on her face. Liz rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, right.” She lifted her left hand, with it’s expensive engagement ring and wedding band set. “See this?” When she saw that Caroline’s eyes had narrowed onto the rings, she fisted her fingers. “That set of rings and this fist are my proof that he’s mine, and I don’t share. Unless you want me to mar the perfection of your pretty little face, you will unhand my husband and you will do it now.”
Caroline smirked, refusing to let go … until she saw Liz draw her fist back. Then, she could not let go fast enough, springing backward to remain out of Liz’s reach.
The moment Caroline let him go, Will spun around to place himself between his wife and his friend’s sister. Remembering how she had manhandled the girlfriend of a fellow driver last season, Will knew not to let Liz go. She did not need a police record because she defended him, and Caroline would call the cops out of spite.
“It’s time for you to go, Caroline. I told you before and I’m telling you now, there will never be anything between us. I got a court order before, and I can do it again. Leave me – leave us – alone.” Will grabbed Liz’s arm and dragged her back toward his truck.
“You don’t mean that, Will, I know you don’t,” Caroline called after him. “We were meant to be together, and we will be. You’ll see!”
Will never looked Caroline’s direction. After pulling his wife behind him to the driver’s side of his truck, he boosted her up and in, saying, “Slide over,” before tossing the bags to her and climbing in after them. He slid the key into the ignition and started the engine, immediately putting it into reverse and leaving the parking lot as quickly as he could manage.
