Many of you will remember that last year, I shared how difficult Christmas has been for me for many years. I wrote a Christmas book last year, and it was the first one I had done, though I had written a short story a couple of years earlier that became part of Promises Kept.
I’m happy to say that this year, I set my mind that I was going to enjoy the holiday. I made Christmas Eve my focus, with its tradition (at least in my house) of focusing on the birth of Christ. I expanded my usual celebrations a bit, as well, by adding my Christmas dinner and some goodies. I partied so hard that I was awake half the night with acid reflux, but it was so worth it! 🙂
Anyway, I wrote another Christmas novella. In this book, there is a snowstorm in Hertfordshire. The Regency Redingote tells me that England in the Regency was in a mini ice age and that heavy snowfalls were common. It also says that few in the country bothered going out after a heavy snow and that they made paths instead of shoveling or plowing. I actually checked this out after I wrote the story. It’s nice to know I wasn’t too far off, and it’s also nice to know that the stories I’ve read where Derbyshire gets feet and feet of snow (like we do here) are not necessarily wrong, either.

Anyway, in my story, Meryton gets about a foot and a half of snow. Knee-deep to Darcy, so possibly two feet. Someone (not saying who at this point) gets lost in the blizzard that caused it, and a happily ever after for Darcy and Elizabeth looks like it might not happen.
Below is the blurb of my story. Below that is information about the giveaway I’m having to celebrate the book.
An instant attraction. An epic snowstorm. A wedding day in peril.
Before one snowy day on a London street, Fitzwilliam Darcy had never been in love. However, shortly after meeting the tantalizing Elizabeth Bennet, he knows his heart will no longer be his own.
Elizabeth Bennet finds she is powerless to resist her attraction to the handsome and wealthy gentleman she has met and, in very short order, falls madly and deeply in love with him.
When the time comes for Elizabeth to leave London, Darcy follows her, intent upon continuing to prove his love for her. Elizabeth is happy to have his attentions, but she worries he will not be able to look past her background or abide her mother.
As it turns out, Elizabeth’s mother is not the only mother to fear in Hertfordshire, for it is Mother Nature who poses the greatest threat.
