News and Updates: Saturday, August 15, 2020

Welcome to (or back to) Austen Promises! Below are my news and updates for this week. Enjoy!

How’s it going? Is it hot where you are? We’ve had some hot, humid weather here this past week, though not as bad as it was a couple weeks ago. It’s supposed to be cooler at the beginning of next week, thankfully. Yard work, here I come! 😀

In writing news, I wrote 2,526 words on a Christmas story. I dropped two projects I had been working on, because I was making no progress with them. The new story is flowing out pretty well, so it seems I made the correct decision. 🙂

I have redone the Bits of Ribbon and Lace cover and updated the interior. As soon as I get the print version back from the formatter, I will make a new print cover and a large print edition and begin uploading the book for sale. I had taken it off sale to use as a freebie for those who signed up for this newsletter, but you’ll remember I recently replaced Ribbons with A MUCH Later Meeting. As soon as I get links, I’ll share them with you. 🙂

I realized as I was redoing Ribbons that I never finished the redo of Matches Made at Netherfield. I’m going to try to hire a formatter for that, only because of the time factor.

Speaking of formatting, I feel like it’s time I let go of the reins of that aspect of publishing. Intellectually, I know I don’t really have the time to keep messing with Microsoft Word, and I don’t really have the time or desire to learn a new program, nor do I want to add to my monthly expenses by subscribing to one. My head screams let it go but my heart? Well, my heart still wishes to master Word 100%. LOL This will be difficult for me, this letting go, but it’s a necessary evil. I might need your prayers to help me through it! LOL

My August Austen Authors post is this coming Monday, August 17, 2020. The topic will be perfume in the Regency.

If you are a member of the group I run with Leenie Brown and Rose Fairbanks, you are probably already aware of the changes we have made to the group. The first change was to the name. We went from being the Longbourn Literary Society to the Sigh-Worthy Romance Tearoom. We have re-instituted the Question of the Week, and have committed ourselves to becoming more involved with the group with live broadcasts (random, for the most part), sharing pre-recorded videos, and just in general making the group more interactive. We want to grow relationships with each of the members. Also, we have been moving in different directions, often beyond just JAFF, and we wanted our group to reflect that. We’ve changed our mission statement and goals to reflect the new direction we’re taking. If you’re not a member already and you’d like to check us out, click here.

I had always intended to have Jane Austen quotes be part of my Mondays with Austen feature, and I’m happy to announce that those will begin in September. The rest of this month is devoted to old Austen Authors posts, but after that, there will be one week of an Austen-related product, one week will be an old Austen Authors post, and two will be quotes.

In personal news, Wickham has a new drive shaft, so I am free to travel a bit. I intend to take a drive once or twice a month and visit some of the historical markers around my part of the state. I’m hoping this is something I can do without having to go into places. LOL

I spent many hours over the last two weeks watching the American North and South mini-series from the 1980’s and 1990’s. I had forgotten how much I loved them! The books, written by John Jakes, are around $40 in paperback from Amazon, so I intend to get a set come payday. I also intend to read book three first, so I can see what really happened with George and Madeline! <3
